Opus One is the legendary collaboration of Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, and the famed Robert Mondavi of the Napa Valley. Together, they set out to produce a single wine, that would epitomise both men’s pursuit of uncompromising quality. The 2016 vintage is notably vibrant and mellifluous, with appetising red cherry and blueberry fruit character, seasoned with a sprinkling of sweet spice. Under closer inspection, a more savoury, herbal, umami undertow is revealed. The palate is packed with generously juicy, mocha-inflected black fruit. The tannins are fabulously rounded, with a velvety sheen.
